More than 400 Moroccan minors are reportedly living on their own in Melilla, according to the Minister of Social Welfare of the Autonomous City, Daniel Ventura, told Melilla Hoy.

All these unaccompanied Moroccan minors have their identity documents on them, which shows that they «arrive in Melilla with the help of organized groups».

This number «is large enough to suggest that this situation is directly planned by third parties or by the parents themselves who send their children here and abandon them» said Daniel Ventura.

The official believes that this is «a crime against these children». «I think it's time to start acting», he added. Daniel Ventura considers it appropriate to open an investigation «so that we know who the parents of these children are».
