Moroccan international player Youssef Ait Bennasser had to leave his teammates in Russia, heading to France because of a knee injury, announced Sunday French coach Hervé Renard.
Wounded while training the day before the team’s last World Cup match, the Moroccan midfielder has undergone a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and can no longer play. He left the Atlas Lions at the request of his club, AS Monaco, «for further examinations», said Hervé Renard during a pre-match press conference.
For the record, Morocco is to face Spain today at Kaliningrad’s Baltika, the smallest stadium in the 2018 World Cup.
