The United States, as member of the ‘Club of Friends of Western Sahara’, is expected to submit a draft resolution on the territorial conflict eight days ahead of the deadline.
The drafting of this resolution comes as the world leaders are focused on other questions other than that of the Sahara. The Trump Administration did not send the United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale to Algeria and Morocco to probe the opinions of the two main parties involved in the conflict, similar to that of in April and November 2018.
«Unless the resolution acquires a six additional months extension of the MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) mandate, it is still early for now to talk about the political scope of the text», a well-informed source told Yabiladi.
On October 16, the Security Council called for the appointment of a new personal envoy to Western Sahara since the resignation of Horst Köhler on May 22, due to health reasons.
