Moroccan runner Othmane El Goumri set a new record in the Dublin marathon on Sunday. According to the Irish Examiner, the Moroccan athlete completed the marathon in two hours, eight minutes and four seconds.

He crossed the finish line at Merrion Square, a few seconds before Stephen Scullion, in an edition that brought together more than 22,500 people.

Born May 28, 1992, Othmane El Goumri has already represented Morocco at two outdoors world championships and one indoor. In 2013, he came first at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice (France), second at the Mediterranean Games held in Mersin (Turkey) and third at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Palembang (Indonesia).

So far during 2019, he has taken part to several marathons in Morocco, including that of Rabat in April and that of Marrakech in September, during which he finished second.

The Moroccan athlete was however sanctioned in 2016 by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for irregularities in his biological passport, an electronic document reporting the results of doping controls. A decision following which the Moroccan was banned from competing for two years, alongside two other athletes, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Athletics (FRMA) said in a statement relayed by MAP.
