British Muslims say they fear «hate crime and anti-Muslim racism will go unchallenged» after Prime Minister Boris Johnson refused to launch an Islamophobia inquiry, wrote Metro.
In June, Boris Johnson promised to hold an inquiry into Islamophobia after Muslim leaders in the UK called for the opening of an independent investigation.
However, last Friday, the Prime Minister declared that there would be no Islamophobia inquiry, but an investigation into «prejudices of all kinds».
Siema Iqbal, co-founder of Advancing Voices of Women against Islamophobia, said it «sent out a clear message that Muslims did not matter, which is, according to her is «upsetting».
«Boris Johnson’s refusal to investigate the very real issue of Islamophobia, experienced by Muslims throughout the country, and fuelled by himself and members of his party, comes sadly as no surprise to many British Muslims but is totally unacceptable», she concluded.
