Morocco to officially chair UNESCO’s Arab group

Morocco has officially been named head of the Arab states’ group of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for a one-year term.

A handover ceremony between the Egyptian ambassador to France, permanent delegate to UNESCO, Ehab Badawy, whose country chaired the group in 2019, and the ambassador, permanent representative of Morocco to the UNESCO, Samir Addahre, took place on Tuesday in Paris.

The Arab group is one of the six most active electoral groups in the organization with 19 member states.

The Arab group of UNESCO is involved in all activities, particularly those on heritage and education. It also makes the safeguarding of Palestinian heritage a major focus of its action within UNESCO.
