A Moroccan national residing in Libya was killed on Saturday evening after a mortar shell landed in eastern Tripoli, Morocco’s consulate in Tunisia said in a communiqué.
The consulate said it «learned with great regret of the death of the Moroccan national (A.Ch), a 42 year-old who lives in Libya, after a mortar shell targeted on Saturday evening the Arada area of Souq Jomaa (East of Tripoli)».
The consulate said it had undertaken, once informed, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, the procedures to identify the victim's family and inform them of this tragic news.
The consulate is also working alongside the competent Libyan authorities, to repatriate the remains of this Moroccan after the completion of the legal and administrative procedures.
The Consulate General of Morocco in Tunis has indicated that it will follow its contacts with the competent Libyan authorities to take note of the conclusions of the investigation carried out into the circumstances of this painful event.
