Morocco : Over 5 tons of chira seized near Casablanca, three Arrested

The National Brigade of the judicial police seized, Thursday, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a quantity of 5.222 tons of chira and arrested three individuals, including a Frenchman of Moroccan origin, for their alleged links with a criminal network active in the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic pills.

In a press release, the National Police (DGSN) indicates that this security operation, carried out in coordination with the Royal Gendarmerie, took place in an agricultural farm at the level of the village of Oulad Maimoun, in the region of Had Soualem (outskirts of Casablanca), adding that three suspects were arrested and a car was seized, as well as a large sum of money in national currency suspected of resulting from criminal acts, in addition to 150 chira bundles carefully hidden in a pit, that is a total quantity of about 5.222 tons of drugs.

The three suspects were placed in police custody for the preliminary investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office with a view to identifying the possible ramifications of this criminal activity at the national and international levels, as well as all persons involved, according to the same source.
