Former Polisario leader Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud said that the Front’s leadership has launched a campaign against Sahrawi activists in the Tindouf camps. In one week, two members of opposition group the Sahrawi Initiative for Change were arrested by the separatist movement’s leadership.
On Monday, the UN Special Committee on decolonization discussed the Western Sahara issue in a session held in New York. During the meeting, attended by several delegations, the Kingdom was backed by its classical allies in Africa and in Middle East.
Last week, Mauritania’s former Defense Minister Mohamed Ould Ghazouani said that if elected president of the country he would stop granting Mauritanian citizenship to Sahrawis from Tindouf. Ould Ghazouani’s statement was denounced by the Front which sent a delegation to meet officials from Nouakchott.
Learning from past mistakes, Moroccan Foreign Minister flew, this week, to Panama and Ecuador, which withdrew recognition of «SADR». Nasser Bourita’s trip to Latin America has been an opportunity for the Kingdom to strengthen ties with its allies, including Chile and Brazil.
A delegation of elected representatives from Morocco’s southern provinces visited Iceland, Wednesday, holding talks with several officials. This trip comes as Polisario head Brahim Ghali was received by Icelandic Prime Minister in April.
