France, through a statement from President Emmanuel Macron, has officially recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. This represents a notable shift in Paris's stance, as it had previously supported only the autonomy plan.
In his Throne Day address, King Mohammed VI emphasized the urgent need for creative solutions and good governance to address Morocco's water challenges. He highlighted the importance of completing water projects, including desalination plants and inter-basin transfers, to ensure adequate water supply, support agriculture, and enhance national food security, while urging efficient and responsible water use.
Drawing lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic, King Mohammed VI presented a roadmap on Wednesday to face the effects of the health crisis which has also become an economic and social one. 120 billion dirhams will be injected into the national economy and the Sovereign announced the creation of a «Strategic Investment Fund», a «Strategic National Agency» and the generalization of social coverage for the benefit of all Moroccans within a period of five years.
On the Throne Day, Mariano Rajoy and Pedro Sanchez published two columns in which they praised the twenty years of reign of King Mohammed VI. The two politicians are now added to the list of Spanish Prime Ministers who express sympathy towards Morocco.
