Algeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sabri Boukadoum held a meeting with the UN Security-General Antonio Guterres on Monday. The Western Sahara issue was at the heart of this meeting.
During their meeting, held online, the Algerian Minister stressed «the urgent need of responding to the legitimate aspirations of the Saharawi people, in accordance with the responsibilities of the United Nations and the mandate of the MINURSO».
Boukadoum once again reiterated his country's request to «appoint a new personal envoy to the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara», the Algerian Foreign Ministry wrote in a press release.
It is worth mentioning that since the resignation of Horst Köhler, in May 2019, the UN has not appointed yet a new personal envoy to Western Sahara.
This meeting comes as the Security Council is expected to vote a new resolution
