A Royal Navy patrol boat intercepted, on Monday southwest of Dakhla, 41 km from the coast, a pirogue carrying 42 sub-Saharan would-be migrants.
The pirogue set sail from Mauritanian coasts on December 2, 2023 heading to the Canary Islands, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a press release.
The rescued people received the necessary care on board before being transported to the port of Dakhla and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the same source pointed out.
