The Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024 took center stage at the 4th Annual Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Banquet organized by Fashion 4 Development (F4D) during the 79th UN General Assembly session in New York. The event highlighted Morocco's rich cultural heritage and its contributions to global education and social development efforts.

A standout feature of the evening was the Weaving Hopes exhibition, showcasing artisanal creations by young Moroccans. This initiative, a project of the Silatech Foundation in partnership with Al Amana Microfinance Institution, has empowered over 134,000 young people in Morocco to transform their passions into sustainable livelihoods, according to the event organizers.

The banquet celebrated Morocco's artistic legacy through various displays. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Thani, founder of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Art in New York, curated an exhibition of Moroccan caftans. Siham El Habti presented a collection of Amazigh jewelry and caftans, reflecting Morocco's diverse cultural traditions. Additionally, a showcase of vintage caftans in collaboration with Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier highlighted Morocco's influence on global fashion.

Moroccan cuisine was also in the spotlight, with Chef David Fhima orchestrating a sustainable gastronomy experience featuring Moroccan plant-based dishes. The event recognized Dr. Najat Maalla M'jid, a Moroccan national appointed as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence Against Children, with the Children's Advocacy Award.

The Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture 2024, a collaboration between leading institutions in Qatar and Morocco with support from the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, aims to strengthen cultural ties between the two nations through a series of events celebrating their shared heritage and future aspirations. This cultural exchange is part of Years of Culture's ongoing efforts to foster mutual understanding and respect between different nations.
