Morocco defeats Niger 2-1 in World Cup Qualifier

The Atlas Lions staged a crucial comeback on Friday at Oujda’s Honor Stadium, defeating Niger 2-1 on Matchday 5 of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After a goalless first half, Niger struck first through Youssouf Oumarou (47’), but Morocco responded swiftly. Ismael Saibari equalized in the 59th minute, and Bilal El Khannous sealed the victory in stoppage time (90+1’), securing the team’s fourth consecutive win.

With this result, Morocco strengthens its grip on Group E, topping the table with 12 points. Niger and Tanzania trail with six points each, while Zambia remains at the bottom with three.

Next up, Walid Regragui’s squad faces Tanzania on Tuesday in Oujda, with kickoff set for 9:30 PM local time.
