To counter attempts by irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa to reach Ceuta, Moroccan authorities have intensified security measures around Fnideq and the Belyounech region.

This initiative was launched on the first day of Eid al-Fitr as part of a broader strategy to strengthen border control, according to Spanish media reports.

«These measures have significantly reduced the influx of irregular migrants to Fnideq and Belyounech. This preventive approach is part of a plan developed by the regional command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Tetouan, in close coordination with local authorities and other security forces», the same source stated.

The security deployment includes the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Armed Forces, the National Security, the Auxiliary Forces, and Civil Protection. Checkpoints have been set up at the entrances to Fnideq and Belyounech, as well as on major roads leading to the region.

In September 2024, Moroccan security forces repelled hundreds of sub-Saharan migrants attempting to cross into Ceuta.
