The coalition forming Morocco's ruling majority, comprising the National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), and Istiqlal parties, has been in power since October 2021. They are currently drafting a law to tackle the exploitation of children and the elderly by social media content creators.
This initiative was revealed on Monday, July 21, during the weekly oral question session in the House of Representatives by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication.
The minister highlighted that «a legal void exists in this area» and stressed the need for new legislation to address it. His remarks came in response to a query from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), an opposition party.
«The ministry, in partnership with the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP), is committed to launching a public awareness campaign. This initiative will be conducted in Youth Centers and will engage families and young people to warn them about the societal dangers of this phenomenon», he stated.
