Controversy in Guelmim as separatist flags and slogans appear at funeral

In Laqsabi, in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, a cemetery became the scene of a contentious event during the funeral of Ibrahim Hammoudi Tayyib, better known as «Ibrahim Sabbari». A prominent advocate for the separatist cause, he had previously held the position of secretary-general for the «Sahrawi Association for Victims of Grave Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State».

Images from within the cemetery quickly spread across social media, depicting the deceased wrapped in the flag of the separatist front. The ceremony saw some participants chanting slogans against Morocco's territorial integrity, while others appeared in military-style clothing, leading to widespread public outrage.

The incident left numerous activists shocked, particularly given that it took place in Guelmim, a city not typically associated with territorial disputes. They have urged authorities to take decisive measures to halt what they describe as «repeated provocations» that use such events to propagate separatist ideologies.
