A convention on renewable energy electricity production projects was signed on Monday in Rabat under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. The agreement aims to develop integrated projects that promote energy efficiency and support Morocco’s transition toward sustainable power generation.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the convention brings together the government, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), and the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Holdings and Monitoring of Public Establishments and Enterprises (ANGSPE).
Part of Morocco’s broader ambition to accelerate the National Renewable Energy Program (PNER), the agreement represents a key step in redefining partnerships between the government and public enterprises to ensure a sovereign, efficient, and sustainable energy transition.
It sets the goal of delivering 5 gigawatts of green electricity for Moroccan industry by 2030, while optimizing costs across the value chain and ensuring a fair distribution of responsibilities between ONEE and MASEN. The framework also reinforces contractual and economic stability for renewable energy projects, aligning with the State’s participation policy to strengthen synergy between public institutions.
Prime Minister Akhannouch noted that renewable energies currently account for 46% of Morocco’s installed electricity capacity, with the objective of surpassing 52% by 2030.
The convention was signed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, the Director General of ANGSPE, the Director General of ONEE, and the CEO of MASEN.
