The parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), together with Nabila Mounib, MP for the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), have submitted two draft laws calling for a general amnesty for the detainees of the Generation Z Morocco movement. The proposals are grounded in Article 71 of the 2011 Constitution, which grants Parliament the authority to enact amnesties.
Last week, PPS Secretary-General Nabil Benabdellah publicly urged the release of Generation Z Morocco protesters who had received prison sentences.
The public prosecutor previously reported that 2,480 individuals, including minors, were brought before courts across the kingdom on charges of vandalism against public or private property.
Similar initiatives were introduced in the past seeking amnesty for Hirak of the Rif detainees but were unsuccessful. The activists who were ultimately released did so through royal pardons.
