The security cooperation between Morocco and Spain dismantled a criminal network specializing in human trafficking and document forgery, operating between the coasts of Nador and Melilla.
According to investigation data, the network began its activities in April, when its members started acquiring recreational boats and jet skis to transport migrants during the summer season, exploiting the maritime route linking northern Morocco and Melilla.
Investigations revealed that between May and July, the network facilitated the irregular sea crossing of migrants in exchange for approximately 200,000 euros. The boat captains would gather individuals at points close to the coast, which posed dangers to their safety.
The operation included the arrest of the involved boat captains and the rescue of several victims, in addition to coordination and information exchange with Moroccan security authorities through the police cooperation center in Tangier.
The security operation concluded with the arrest of 11 individuals in Melilla, who were charged with belonging to a criminal organization, violating the rights of foreigners, and forging official documents.
