The Spanish Civil Guard has apprehended seven Moroccans at Melilla Airport on charges of attempting to smuggle hashish by ingesting capsules. They were en route to Almería when detained.

This operation emerged from surveillance of a network known for frequent trips between Melilla and the Iberian Peninsula since 2025. Investigations revealed that this method was designed to bypass customs checks.

The first arrest occurred when a suspect's suspicious behavior led to medical examinations, uncovering 139 capsules inside his body. On March 23, six more individuals were apprehended under similar circumstances and transported to the hospital.

The operation led to the seizure of 829 hashish capsules, weighing a total of 8.9 kilograms, along with mobile phones. The detainees, residents of the Murcia region, now face drug trafficking charges in court. The Civil Guard stated that this operation thwarted the distribution of approximately 35,600 units.
