Sixteen-year-old skater Lina Hilali will become the first athlete to represent Morocco at the Artistic Roller Skating World Cup, scheduled from May 8 to 17 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Based in Dijon, France, the young athlete said she hopes to «represent Morocco with dignity» during the international competition and expressed pride in being the first skater to compete under the Moroccan flag at this level.

«My entire goal is to proudly carry Morocco’s name, but also to introduce a sport that remains little known in my country», she told MAP.

Hilali, who began skating at the age of 12, recently reached elite level, allowing her to compete in both national and international events open to junior and senior athletes.

Her mother also expressed pride in seeing her daughter represent Morocco on the world stage, saying the participation could help promote and develop artistic roller skating in the kingdom.

Comparable to figure skating but performed on roller skates, the discipline combines athletic and artistic performance through choreographed routines featuring jumps and technical movements requiring precision, balance, and discipline.

Hilali’s mother also thanked the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban Sports (FRMSU) and the Moroccan Consulate General in Dijon for supporting young Moroccan talents.

The German city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen will host the second stage of the Artistic World Cup, bringing together skaters from around 30 countries. The European stage will serve as a qualifier for the world final set to take place in early June in Cesena, Italy.
