Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, received Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on Monday in Rabat, during Lacroix’s second official visit to Morocco.

The talks focused on Morocco’s major role and contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations, stemming from a Royal Vision that continues the Kingdom’s long-standing commitment in this area since 1960.

Morocco, currently the ninth-largest troop-contributing country to UN peacekeeping operations, will chair the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) in 2026. It also serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues, reflecting the trust it enjoys within the international community on these matters.

Lacroix’s visit comes as the UN Secretary-General has launched wide-ranging reform efforts, both under the UN80 initiative for a strategic and comprehensive review of all peacekeeping operations and as part of broader work on the international peace and security architecture.
