Morocco's Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira, held a series of high-level meetings in Jakarta on Friday aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties with Indonesia and expanding Morocco's economic engagement with Southeast Asia.
On the second day of his official visit, Hejira met with officials from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of Morocco's ambassador to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, along with business leaders from both countries.
The talks focused on boosting cooperation between Moroccan and Indonesian businesses, encouraging mutual investment, increasing business missions, and exploring opportunities in key sectors including agribusiness, fertilizers, energy, renewable energy, logistics, textiles and pharmaceuticals.
Hejira highlighted Morocco's strategic position as a gateway to Africa and Europe, citing its extensive trade agreements, modern infrastructure and geographic location, and invited Indonesian companies to launch joint investment projects with regional and international reach.
The Moroccan delegation also met with officials from Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency to discuss implementing a mutual recognition agreement on halal certification. The move is expected to facilitate Moroccan exports to Indonesia, particularly food products, agricultural goods and cosmetics.
The two sides agreed to organize a working visit by the head of the Indonesian halal authority to Morocco next September to meet private-sector representatives and the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR) in order to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise.
Hejira also held talks with Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, on ways to deepen economic cooperation between Morocco and the regional bloc. Discussions focused on promoting investment, expanding trade, strengthening regional value chains, the green economy and logistics connectivity, while capitalizing on Morocco's status as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner and gateway to Africa and Europe.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to deepen economic dialogue, organize a business forum bringing together Moroccan and ASEAN private-sector representatives, and an official invitation for Morocco to participate in the ASEAN Investment Summit in the Philippines in November 2026.
The meetings form part of Morocco's 2025-2027 Foreign Trade Program and reflect both countries' commitment to strengthening economic ties and opening new avenues of cooperation with Southeast Asia.
