As opposed to what has been reported by several Spanish media platforms, the bodies of the Moroccan alleged terrorists killed during the attacks in Catalonia will not be returned to Morocco as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
«These are just rumors, the bodies are still with the Spanish authorities, especially since the families of the terrorists did not ask for that», said a source close to the case. «The Kingdom’s consulate in Girona (Catalonia) is not dealing with the repatriation», said the same source adding that «for the moment there hasn’t been an agreement yet between the authorities».
The Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, shot dead Younès Abouyaaqoub on Monday 21st of August near the village of Subirats, 40 km away from Barcelona. The 22-year-old was the driver of the van that hit the crowds in Las Ramblas.
Earlier on Friday 18th of August, a car hit pedestrians at Cambrils. Five suspected terrorists were killed by the police in their vehicle on the same evening.
