A rally was held on Thursday, 23rd of November, in Boston, Massachusetts to demand the release of Siham Byah, a Moroccan national living in the USA since 1999, and her son detained for 10 days by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Siham, mother of an 8-year-old American citizen was put into custody at the beginning of the current month and is to be deported back to Morocco, reports BUnews service.

50 people gathered in front of the JFK Federal building for the second time after 200 others rallied the first time to defend Siham. The latter is a 40-year-old woman who has lived in Nahant, a town in Essex County, Massachusetts for 16 years. «ICE called on Byah for a routine check-in. Upon arrival, they immediately took her into custody, according to rally organizers. Her son Naseem was at school and later taken away by Department of Children and Families», said the same source.

Malika MacDonald who organized the two rallies for the release of Siham told the local online newspaper that «what has taken place is completely injustice. There’s been no reason given. There’s been nothing given to the attorney, to her, to anyone».

Speaking to Boston globe, Siham’s lawyer, Matt Cameron explained that «a deportation order was issued against Byah in the mid-2000s. Since that time, she has applied for stays of removal from the country».

«As part of that process, she has checked in, usually on an annual basis, with local ICE authorities. In the past, federal authorities have granted her requests for stays formally or simply told her to check in again the following year.»
