The leader of Mauritanian party People Progressive Alliance (APP) Ahmed Ould Iyahi announced, Monday, that he is running for the country’s presidential elections, scheduled for June 22.

During a meeting, the politician spoke about his electoral campaign, promising to «find a solution to the Western Sahara issue». «This solution would satisfy all parties», said the politician who was quoted by Emirati newspaper Erem News.

Ould Iyahi’s promises will not go unnoticed in Mauritania and the Tindouf camps, where Sahrawis with Mauritanian citizenships participate to elections in Nouakchott.

In March, Mauritania’s former Defense Minister Mohamed Ould Ghazouani announced, that he is running for the upcoming presidential elections, being the only politician to submit an election bid. Representing the Union for the Republican party (UPR), the general is following in the footsteps of his «friend» and mentor Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

Ould Ghazouani, who is President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz’s protégé, was backed by his party and elected as its new leader at its second regular national conference.
