The repatriation operation of Moroccans, stranded for more than six months in Melilla, started on Wednesday. 200 of them were allowed to return home today as part of an operation jointly arranged by Morocco and Spain.

The government delegate in Melilla Sabrina Moh said that the operation carried out today allowed «those who are in Melilla to return to their country».

The following repatriation operations «will take place on Friday October 2 and Sunday October 4». Sabrina Moh insisted that this process will be phased to avoid crowds.

The day after the death of a Moroccan woman, a group of 125 Moroccans were repatriated from Melilla on May 15, in addition to 25 others the following day. But since then, the repatriation operations have been stopped, leaving hundreds of stranded in the city.

The Moroccans who returned to the kingdom on Wednesday were previously subjected to PCR tests in accordance with the health protocol in force in Morocco.
