King Mohammed VI dismissed on Tuesday four ministers from El Othmani's cabinet. The royal decision came after the Sovereign voiced his discontent with the slow pace of development projects, which fall within the framework of his «Lighthouse of the Mediterranean» initiative, inaugurated in October 2015. Abdelilah Benkirane, on the other hand emerged unscathed.
Once again it is the Palace that calls the shots when it comes to political action. King Mohammed VI presided over a meeting on Monday afternoon devoted to the presentation of a report on Al Hoceima. The latter was ordered by the sovereign to investigate the delayed projects in the region.
King Mohammed VI has criticized on Saturday during the throne speech the work of political parties in Morocco and blamed the failure of local officials to quickly implement development projects. For now, political parties have preferred to remain silent as they are being held responsible for the current crisis in the Rif region by analysts.
Mohammed VI has decided not to follow the rule. His speech on the occasion of the commemoration of the Celebration of the Throne this year has not focused on an enumeration of the accomplishments during the past year. The shadow of the «Hirak» dominated the royal intervention.
