Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch inaugurated on Thursday in Maamoura (Salé suburb) the Museum of Moroccan Football, at the headquarters of the Royal Moroccan Football Association.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, and Mehdi Qotbi, President of the National Museums Foundation.
Speaking during the opening, lekjaa said the Moroccan Football Museum «contributes to the preservation of the national football memory and heritage».
He added that there is a consensus today on the importance of establishing a museum that reorganizes memory and showcases the history of Moroccan football, its legends, clubs, and infrastructure.
The museum celebrates a glorious past and bears witness to a present full of achievements that are a source of pride for Moroccan fans, he said, stressing the importance of passing on football heritage to future generations.
The museum aims to shed light on the history of national football, which began in 1906, by displaying photographs and artifacts related to football, providing all generations, especially the younger one, with the opportunity to learn about the achievements of Moroccan players.
In a similar statement, the museum's permanent exhibition will offer visitors a comprehensive view of the rich history and special moments of Moroccan football through six spaces, said Zaid Ouakrim, governor of the Moroccan Football Museum.
The new museum is located on the ground floor of the new headquarters of the Royal Moroccan Football federation in Salé.
