Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, will chair a ministerial meeting of the African Union's Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) on «Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on Peace, Security, and Governance in Africa» on Thursday via videoconference.

Held under Morocco’s presidency of the AU-PSC for March 2025, the meeting will bring together foreign ministers from PSC member states, as well as experts and representatives of specialized institutions, to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in the context of peace, security, and governance in Africa.

This ministerial-level meeting, the first of its kind, builds on Morocco’s international efforts to promote the rational and responsible use of artificial intelligence for peace, security, and development in Africa.

These efforts were reinforced by the adoption of United Nations General Assembly Resolution N°A/78/L.49 in 2024, a joint initiative of Morocco and the United States focused on AI's global implications.

Positioning itself as a key player in AI, Morocco advanced 11 places in the 2024 Global Digitalization Index and aims to be among Africa’s leading nations in artificial intelligence by 2030.

Morocco’s progress in AI enhances its strategic standing on the African continent, reinforcing its ambition to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
