On Thursday, Vox, a Spanish nationalist party, submitted a non-legislative proposal to the House of Representatives, requesting that it be discussed in the Committee on Internal Affairs. The proposal addresses the issue of unaccompanied foreign minors and what the party describes as Spain’s failure to uphold its agreement with Morocco on cooperation in combating irregular migration of minors.

The far-right party stated that the government had acknowledged the arrival of 20,332 unaccompanied minors in Spain between 2019 and September 30, 2024, with 4,802 of them in Catalonia. It also noted that 52% of these minors come from Maghreb countries, with Morocco being the most represented nationality.

In its proposal, Vox highlighted the 2007 agreement between Spain and Morocco, signed in Rabat on March 6 of that year, which focuses on preventing irregular migration of unaccompanied minors, ensuring their protection, and facilitating their organized return. The party emphasized that the agreement requires the supported repatriation of minors to their families or to guardianship institutions in their countries of origin, along with measures for their social reintegration.

Vox argued that the continued guardianship of these minors by Spanish authorities and their placement in care centers violate the terms of the agreement. It urged the government to comply with the accord by facilitating their return to their home countries and ensuring family reunification.
