UK seeks to double trade with Morocco within seven years

The United Kingdom aims to double its trade volume with Morocco over the next five to seven years, British Minister of State for International Trade Chris Bryant said on Tuesday in Rabat following talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and at the opening of the Morocco-UK Business Forum. Trade between the two countries currently stands at around £4.5 billion.

Bryant described Morocco as a land of opportunity and a strategic partner for the UK, stressing the need to strengthen trade and investment ties. He also highlighted the 2030 FIFA World Cup as a catalyst for economic transformation, infrastructure development and Morocco's international visibility.

The British official expressed London's willingness to support Morocco's preparations for the tournament, particularly in areas such as major event management, security, infrastructure, fan services and post-event legacy planning. He added that British companies are keen to take part in the Kingdom's major transformation projects.

Bryant is visiting Morocco with a delegation of around 50 companies specializing in sectors including infrastructure, transport, security, engineering, design and professional services to participate in the Morocco-UK Business Forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3.

For his part, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour said the 2030 World Cup is being viewed as a development lever to improve transport infrastructure, healthcare services and public facilities across the country. He added that Morocco is implementing a broader eight-year economic and territorial transformation program and is seeking partnerships based on investment, innovation and competitiveness rather than simple technology transfers.

The visit will also coincide with the 4th session of the Morocco-United Kingdom Association Council. The forum brings together senior government officials, business leaders and investors from both countries to deepen bilateral cooperation and support Morocco's development agenda ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
