An Italian judge has upheld the detention of the 21-year-old Italian-Moroccan arrested in Milan earlier this week on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses, ruling that he should remain in custody pending further investigation.

In the order confirming his arrest, the investigating judge described the suspect as both «suggestible» and «dangerous», arguing that his personal fragility made him particularly vulnerable to radicalization while also capable of carefully planning actions and potentially sacrificing himself for a cause he believed in.

According to Italian authorities, months of surveillance uncovered extremist material on his devices, including ISIS propaganda videos and content obtained through websites on the dark web. Investigators also pointed to a message reading «minus 0, coming soon», which they interpreted as a possible countdown to an attack. The message was allegedly sent shortly before he purchased a ticket to Morocco.

During questioning, the suspect denied any terrorist intentions, claiming he had collected and shared extremist content for documentation purposes rather than propaganda. He also described the «minus 0» message as a joke and insisted he had no plans to commit acts of violence.

The judge rejected those explanations, concluding that the evidence pointed to a high-risk profile. Italian media also reported that around €22,000 in cash was seized during the investigation.
