Moroccan athlete Mohamed Amguoun set a new world record in the 400m competition in the T13 category for the visually impaired during the «World Para Athletics» championships held in London from the 14th to the 23rd of July.
Amguoun, who gained a fifth gold medal for his country in the IPC Athletics World Championships, covered the distance in 46s and 92/100 ahead of Namibian athlete Johannes Nambala (48s 40/100) and Algerian Fouad Hamoumou (48s 65/100).
Morocco is participating to the world championships in London with a team of 14 athletes. It includes, in addition to Amguoun, Sanaa Benhama, Saida Amoudi, Nezha El Baraka, El Hayat Garaa, Youssra Karim, Youssef Benibrahim, El Amin Chentouf, Mahdi Afri, Aharak Hafid, Mohamed Khatabou, Taoufik Mhaidi, Azeddine Nouiri and Nabil Rahali Omari.
These athletes are accompanied by the President of the Royal Moroccan Sports Federation for Persons with Disabilities (RMSFPD) Hamid El Aouni as well as technical, medical and administrative staff.
The Moroccan team won five gold medals during the events of 1500m (T13), 5000m (T13), 400m T12 (also referring to the visually-impaired), 400m (T13), 200m (T12), as well as a silver medal in the 400m T13 race.
Moroccan athlete Mahdi Afri won two gold medals in the 400m (T12) and the 200m (T12) races. His fellow countrywoman Sanaa Benhama also won two medals, a gold one at the 1500m (T13) competition and a silver one in the 400m (T13) competition.
