85% of the waste collected in Moroccan beaches is plastic. Bottles, ropes, fishing nets, sticks and plastic bags are objects that pollute these precious places, reported Zero Zbel, an association that fights against pollution, in a report conducted to commemorate the World Day for Beach Cleaning (September the 15th).

The NGO explains that from March to August 2018, 36 280 have been thrown in the beaches.

Backed by the Heinrich Boll Foundation, Zero Zbel managed to track the origins of these objects. «56% of the waste collected in beaches belongs to 5 marketed products», said the association.

«48% of the waste that was identified thanks to its logo comes from trademarks belonging to three companies», says the association. According to it, «these companies are major players in the soft drink, bottled water and dairy products sectors».

In addition, «Morocco has been named among the 20 countries that reject the most plastic in the oceans», hence the urgency to «think of solutions to reduce the use of plastic and its impact on nature».
