European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos will visit Marrakesh on Dec. 9-11 and will lead the European Union (EU) delegation to the Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration scheduled in the same city.
Avramopoulos will represent the EU, which is participating as an observer in the Marrakesh conference, organized by the UN to adopt the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration, said on Friday a statement from the European Commission.
EU Foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini had said, last week, that she was convinced that the Global Compact for Migration, which will be submitted for approval at the international meeting in Marrakesh, will serve the national interests of European countries.
On the sidelines of his participation in the Marrakesh conference, Commissioner Avramopoulos will take part in a high-level meeting, on Sunday, to launch the EU-OECD joint report «Settling In 2018: Indicators of Immigrant Integration».
