Several decisions will be taken at the FIFA Executive Football Summit to be held in Marrakech on Jan. 15-17 to foster football development in general, and women's football in particular, FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, said Monday.

At Marrakech's Executive Summit, FIFA national associations members will discuss proposals on the expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams as from the next edition, Infantino told reporters following his arrival in Marrakech.

For his part, President of Morocco's Football Royal Federation, Faouzi Lekjaa, said that the convening of FIFA Executive Summits in Marrakech is a mark of confidence in Morocco.

Following on from the success of the first two editions, the 2018/19 series of the FIFA Executive Football Summits started in Doha between 11 and 13 December.

Since its launch by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Paris in November 2016, the summits have become a vital exchange platform to discuss strategic football matters and share best practices between member associations’ executives in an open and constructive atmosphere.

Key topics on the agenda for the third edition of the FIFA Executive Football Summits are the future of FIFA’s competitions, the FIFA Forward 2.0 programme, women’s football and video assistant referees (VARs).

The 2018/19 edition of the FIFA Executive Football Summits, which comprises a total of nine gatherings, will continue in Marrakech (15-17 January 2019) and conclude in Rome (21-23 January 2019).
