Louvre Museum preisdent Jean-Luc Martinez and chairman of the National Museums Foundation (FNM) Mehdi Qotbi signed, Wednesday in Paris, a framework agreement on the organization, in spring 2020 at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) in Rabat, of an exceptional exhibition on French artist Eugene Delacroix.
This exhibition, the first of its kind in the Arab world and Africa, will be designed especially for Morocco, a country where this genius painter spent several months in 1832.
The exhibition is to present both paintings by Delacroix as well as Moroccan objects brought back to France by the painter, and to «show this Morocco so dreamed of» by this icon of plastic art, Martinez told MAP.
«Images of Morocco have inhabited Delacroix», he said at the end of the signing ceremony, which was held in the presence of director of the National Museum Eugene Delacroix, Claire Bessede.
Qotbi recalled that the first agreement inked by the National Museums Foundation was with the Louvre, stressing that it is thanks to the support of this prestigious institution that «we were able to list the works at our disposal».
The framework agreement also provides for the strengthening of cooperation between the Louvre Museum and the FNM, in particular on scientific and technical issues, as well as staff training.
