The judicial police of the city of Fez foiled on Wednesday morning, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a trafficking attempt of two tonnes and 60 kg of chira.

This drug was discovered aboard a Morocco-registered truck at a gas station located in Ain Taoujdate, said a statement from the National Police (DGSN), adding that the truck driver (aged 35) was arrested.

The suspect was remanded in police custody to finish the preliminary investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to identify the persons involved in this criminal network, and shed light on its possible national and international ramifications, the statement said.

This case is part of intensive security operations conducted jointly by the DGSN and DGST services aimed at combating the phenomenon of drug trafficking.
