Yassine Faid, a 25-year-old Moroccan national, drowned after rescuing a child who slipped from a pedal boat into Lake Bolsena in Capodimonte, near Naples. The young man was on his honeymoon with his wife, says the Italian newspaper Gazzetta di Mantova.

The incident took place on the 11th of August in the afternoon. The resident of Roverbella was on vacation at the lake with his wife and some family members to celebrate his recent wedding.

Yassine Faid had rented a pedal boat with the daughter of his sister-in-law, aged ten. A hundred meters from the shore, the latter, «perhaps because of the wind, or because she leaned to play, fell into the water,» says the same source.

Not knowing how to swim, the girl soon was drowning. The man then dived into the lake to save her. Exhausted, he swallowed water before losing consciousness.

According to witnesses, swimmers immediately intervened to save him, but it was already too late. The prosecutor of Viterbo did not consider it necessary to perform an autopsy. The Moroccan body is awaiting repatriation in Morocco.
